evaluation of zenian and avishan-e shirazi antibacterial activity against vibrio cholerae strains

چکیده
background : the aim of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of zataria multiflora boiss (avishan-e shirazi) and carum copticum (zenian) extracts on vibrio cholerae american type culture collection (atcc14035)and v. cholerae persian type culture collection (ptcc1611) strains. methods : antimicrobial effects of the extracts were assayed by disc diffusion and broth microdilution methods. results : using susceptibility tests, it was shown that carum copticum methanolic extract had the highest antibacterial effect on v. cholerae standard strains at 6.25 mg/ml concentration. conclusions : other evaluations considering herbal extracts as an antibacterial agent as well as in vivo examination of these extracts is needed to provide a natural, cost effective and strong alternative for traditionally less effective antibiotics normally used.

Antibacterial activity of ciprofloxacin against clinical strains of Vibrio cholerae O139 recently isolated from India.
We determined the in vitro antibacterial activity of ciprofloxacin against Vibrio cholerae O139 recently isolated from cholera patients in India. Ciprofloxacin showed excellent antibacterial activity against the O139 strains, and ciprofloxacin-resistant O139 strains were not observed. The lack of incidence of ciprofloxacin resistance in O139 strains may be because O139 strains appeared comparat...

BACKGROUND Cholera is a major public health problem in developing countries of the world. Bacterial resistance, lack of surveillance data and proper microbiological facilities are major problems regarding diagnosis of cholera. The spread of microbial drug resistance is a global public health challenge that results in increased illness and death rate. Newer antimicrobials or agents are urgently ...

Blind loops prepared in the small intestines of fasted, MgSO4-treated rats were shown to provide a simple, consistent and inexpensive means of studying mucosal colonisation by Vibrio cholerae serogroup O1. When c. 2000 cfu were injected, the number of mucosa-associated V. cholerae in each loop increased by c. 5-6 orders of magnitude in 10-14 h, without enterotoxin-induced fluid production. Scan...
متن کاملDetermination of ctxAB expression in Vibrio cholerae Classical and El Tor strains using Real-Time PCR
Cholera is an infection of the small intestines caused by the bacterium V. cholerae. It is a major cause of health threat and also a major cause of death worldwide and especially in developing countries. The major virulence factor produced by V. cholerae during infection is the cholera toxin. Total mRNA extraction and reverse transcription was performed for making ctxAB cDNA. Relative Real-Time...

The use of remedies from plant origin covers a wide variety of maladies and constitutes an alternative way to antibiotic therapy, which otherwise seems to be no longer promising due to antibiotics widespread resistance among pathogenic microorganisms. Active principles having antimicrobial activity may be extracted and purified from plants for developing new drugs. Among several illnesses that ...
